Ireland during the 4th of July

So today is the 4th of July! There were a few pubs with Irish flags but no fireworks : ( Instead I spent the weekend learning about Irish culture. Today I went to a Hurling match. It is a specifically Irish sport. It is very fast game and a bit hard to describe. Points ( a score of 1 ) are scored by essentially making a field goal and goals ( a score of 3) are scored by whacking the ball into the net. The ball is moved up and down the field through a series of throwing, kicking, dribbling it on their paddles, and whacking it down the field. Most of the people in the crowd wore the uniforms of the team they supported. The match I saw was the Kilkenny Cats (yellow and black) vs the Galway Tribesmen (maroon). We watched the match at Croak park in the North side of Dublin.

On Friday night I went to a Ceili. Basically it is a traditional Irish dance party! So of course I had a lot of fun. We learned about five traditional Irish dances which all had Gaelic names. There was a traditional Irish band as well. In the middle when we were all hot and tired from dancing they offered us a nice hot cup of tea!
